Charles Vincent Burwell has long felt that diversity and creative identity were instrumental in the fashioning of a well-rounded artist. A San Francisco, CA native, Burwell began his musical training with the piano at age seven. By the onset of his teenage years, he had learned to play most brass instruments and was beginning to work on compositions. A Congressional Scholar in Leadership, Burwell received a B.S. in Choral Music Education from Florida A & M University. It was in college that Burwell would nurture his studies in theater, dance, voice, and ethnomusicology. There he performed as a soloist with the FAMU Concert Choir, a dancer with Orchesis Contemporary Dance Theater as a well as an accompanist for the Florida Sate University Department of Dance.
Since relocating to New York, Burwell has had the opportunity to work with an array of talented and

acclaimed artist. Organizations that he has worked with include: the Lincoln Center Institute, City Center, the Katherine Dunham Institute, Trenton Educational Dance Institute (TEDI), National Dance Institute, Urban Bush Women, Festival del Caribe (Santiago de Cuba, Cuba), Ile Aiye (Salvador de Bahia, Brazil), and Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. He has composed music for the Cairo Opera House Ballet (Cairo, Egypt), National Dance Institute under the Artistic Direction of Jacques d’Amboise (Shanghai, China), and has sung at Carnegie Hall, (New York, NY). Currently, Burwell serves as musician/teaching artist for National Dance Institute, associate musical director for the Trenton Educational Institute, and is on the musical staff at the Alvin Ailey Center for Dance. In addition to maintaining a private studio for vocal instruction, cultivating a career as a singer, dancer, actor, and composer, and having the ability to play over twenty instruments, Burwell, is co-founder of the Prophecy Arts Collective – a multifaceted collection of professional creative and performing artist. Burwell serves as the musical director of Prophecy Dance Works and Executive Director of ProphecyMusic/NY.
